(Document Work MLA) – Document their work using appropriate conventions (MLA)
Before ENG 110, I had never been graded upon my ability to cite in MLA format. We probably had one or two papers throughout my four years of high school that were required to have in-text citations in this format, and if it was a requirement they did not take it seriously. I had the basic formatting concepts of MLA when coming into this course, but I didn’t really know about smaller details that are important to using these citations. Properly using parenthetical citations is something that I slipped up on repetitively throughout the beginning of the semester, but by the end, I made improvements with it and it became a much less common occurrence. After learning how to do this in ENG110, I will be able to carry it with me and apply it in many parts of my academic life.
Below I have included two citations, one from Essay #1 and one from Essay #3. Figure 1 shows a mistake I made with punctuation when using in-text citations. I have highlighted the portion of the sentence where I put the period on the wrong side of the parenthesis.
The other important part of MLA format is including a Works Cited page at the end of your essay. This is what you are referencing to when using in-text citations in your writing. When creating a Works Cited page, there are different parts that need to be included in the citation when using specific sources of material. In figure 3 shown below, I have provided my Works Cited page for essay #3. It includes different citations for three sources.
